Glasgow training programme - details not yet released Details of our 2-week 'Making Markets Work' training programme to be held in Glasgow from 18 - 30 July 2010 will be released around 19th March 2010. We currently still have details of our short regional programme (which is fully booked) on our website, so please do not use the current application form. Full details will uploaded to the website later this month. In the meantime, if you wish to express an early interest in attending the Glasgow programme then please email: global@springfieldcentre.com
Mombasa training programme - closing date The closing date for applications to our 'Making markets work for enterprise in Africa' training programme has now passed and the course is fully subscribed with a waiting list for places. However there may still be places if we have late withdrawals, so please contact us if you wish your name to be added to the waiting list or added to our mailing list for future training events: global@springfieldcentre.com
Consultancy positions available at the Springfield Centre We are seeking to recruit new consultants to join our team in Durham. Recent expansion in the volume and diversity of our work, increasing demands from clients and the strong potential we see for future growth - especially for development agencies to take a more effective, systemic approach to development - mean that there are exciting new opportunities emerging for Springfield as an organisation and for people within Springfield. We are especially interested in people with around 2-5 years’ relevant experience in high-income and developing countries, and able to bring a combination of analytical rigour and real-world experience to the development task. Closing date for applications is 19/02/10. For more information, go to theopportunities pageof our website.
Alumni group on Facebook We have (finally) launched an alumni group on Facebook to facilitate networking amongst participants of our M4P training programmes. The group is available to anyone who has previously attended one of our training programmes (the majority of you will already have received an email from us on this subject). If we have lost touch with you and you'll like to join then either do a group search on Facebook for 'Springfield Centre Training Programme Alumni' or email us for instructions (global@springfieldcentre.com). We are hoping for some lively discussions!
New members of the Springfield Centre team We were delighted to welcome Sarah Brown and Daniel Nippard to our Durham-based team back in June. Since then we have kept them very busy attending the Glasgow training programme (plus the DCED event in Chiang Mai) followed by work in Nigeria and Indonesia. See our team page for background on our two new team members.
New material on M4P available Three new documents on the making markets work for the poor (M4P) approach have now been published by SDC and DFID: (1) the M4P Synthesis – a summary of the key arguments for and features of the approach; (2) Perspectives on M4P – eight papers positioning M4P in relation to different fields of development and (3) the M4P Operational Guide – a more detailed resource document on how to put the approach into practice. These documents are being launched at events in Asia and Africa in late-2008 and early-2009 and should be a useful resource in improving the application of M4P and taking it forward into new areas. The Springfield Centre coordinated the development of each of these in conjunction with a range of advisors. The documents are available at: www.M4Pnetwork.org
