Recruitment

Established in 1995, the Springfield Centre is an independent consulting, training and research organisation specialising in private sector development in low and middle-income economies. We have particular expertise in making markets work for the poor - an approach to development that emphasises systemic change - and have an established international reputation for high calibre, independent analysis.

Our work focuses on development agency policy and the design and assessment of interventions in sectors ranging from agriculture to finance and tourism to media, and in the wider business environment. In all our work we seek to marry a strong operational perspective with knowledge of the development context and a commitment to wider development objectives. Geographically, our work covers Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Key clients of the Springfield Centre include:

major bilateral donor organisations including DFID, GTZ, SDC and USAID
multilateral development agencies including ILO, the World Bank and ADB
large international projects in private sector development implemented by consultancies or NGOs

We are based in Durham in the United Kingdom but draw on a circle of close associates from around the globe. For more information, refer to the different sections of our website.

Market development consultants

Our work is based around our team in Durham. Collectively, our analysis, our services and our strategy all develop through discussion within the team. Following a period of growth, we are now looking to build the team and develop our work further by recruiting consultants who share our commitment and can add to our distinctive service offer. We are looking for people who:

Have working experience (typically 2-5 years) in both high-income and developing countries in at least one area of private sector development, such as: agri/rural value chains; financial or business services; competitiveness; regulatory reform
Have good writing and communication skills and a capacity for critical analysis, especially in relation to monitoring and evaluation
Are team players, enjoying an informal yet dynamic working environment and happy to travel internationally on a regular basis
Are capable of showing initiative in building new areas of work
Are willing and able to locate to the North-East of England
May well be frustrated with developments many failings but committed to making a difference!

Associates

The Springfield Centre works with associates in all aspects of its work - consultancy, training and research.

Associates can be freelance or attached to consulting, not-for-profit, or academic organisations. Associates work with us both on short-term assignments and in longer-term collaborations with clients.

Associates must have a distinctive and recognised area of competence within private sector development and an approach that is consistent with that of the Springfield Centre.
